Very good movie! If you are a fan of true science fiction, and by that I mean more storyline than special effects, this is a movie for you!
Not that they're aren't great special effects because there are!
It's a movie of an alien ship stalling above Johannesburg, Africa. What we as man to do them is really sad. It's a timeless movie of enslavement, and someone brave enough to rise against.
All unknown actors to us, the movie was produced by Peter Jackson of The Lord of the Rings fame, directed by Neil Blomkamp who was geared to directed the Halo movie which fell apart. Definitely a good choice on Peter's part to pick Peter who co wrote the screenplay.

I just saw this last night, and I honestly loved it. The best sci-fi movie Ive seen in a while, and even more so because of the underlying social commentary on apartheid and man's intolerance.

The guy who starred in it had never acted before...not even had an acting lesson, yet he was really good. I really enjoyed his transition from company-geek to involuntary activist. I'd give this movie a 5 out of 5 rating!!

I really enjoyed it too, mostly for the reasons outlined already.
I think that story exposé was also clever. Do you think there will be District 10?

I have an issue with motion sickness and movies. I missed 45 minutes of transformers 2 for this reason. The trailer looked really shaky. Is the movie as shaky as the trailer looks?

There are hand-held camera shots (no steady cam) which may make you feel dizzy or nauseated.
My partner has the same issue with motion sickness, but he made it through the movie without a problem.

Good to know. I may try to stomach it and see it. The problem I have is paying for a ticket and then missing some of the movie. We paid 10? for transformers and I didn't see the whole movie. Cloverfield was the same way,

It has been a very long time since I walked out of the theatre going, "I must own that." and this was one of those moments. The Mech was incredible, the Aliens were amazing, and the plot and social assects were enthralling. I loved it.

Yeah Christopher Johnson... Love!

It was sweet, I`m pumped for when District 10 comes out.

It looks like an awesome story and a well made movie. I really wanted to see it at first, but I have an issue with the over use of bad language in movies. I can only take so much and unfortunately this one has 137 f-words which is way beyond my tolerance level.

I really wish they wouldn't do that...its not necessary and its not like anyone ever says they aren't going to see a movie because its lacking in profanity.

Woah, when I watched it I didn't even realize it was said so many times.

I didn't really understand the point of this movie. It seemed a little sad, I would hope that humans wouldn't treat aliens THAT badly if given the chance.

It was very real looking. It just was sad to me since the movie showed that the aliens have feelings and love their little ones. The humans were so mean...all the humans were mean and took advantage of the poor aliens in every way they could. The people that were in charge of their welfare didn't think of them as creatures with feelings.

But you all know...I'm never all that happy with any movies. LOL It would just have to be a movie of non-stop cute little animals for me to get it and love it thoroughly. I spend way too much time with chinchillas....

five stars

I think as mentioned before, the movie was a commentary on society and human nature.

The actions of the characters in this movie had a ring of truth to them. It showed the darker, nastier shades of the character of our species as individuals and how they play out in the societies we create. It highlighted the tendencies towards selfishness, betrayal, lack of regard for the plight of others, and the way we treat those who are different than we are. It also reflected what we can do as a society, showing alien camps that were little more than prison-slums, the brutal, big-brotheresque government that was set up, and the endless arbitrary rules and bureaucracy that was used to control and push the aliens around. It also showed flashes of true nobility of character that also comes with being human (as with the ending). We would most definitely treat aliens like this; after all, we treat each other like this.

I have rarely felt my allegiances switch so completely in a story as I did in this one. Watching Christopher Johnson sitting at the table with his child and saying, "We can't go home," in quiet despair, and showing him the pamphlet for the refugee camp where they were being forced to relocate.. How many times has this played out between governments in the real world and their citizens..?

I think the switch of allegiances (i.e. the change in who I identified with during the movie) was simply forced by a sense of justice. In doing so, I ended up deciding that those who I thought were right were wrong, and vice versa; having seen the other side's perspective, that makes the decision all that more powerful.

First five star movie I've seen in years.
