I'm a new owner for my chinchilla Tweak. She's a 4 year old standard grey chinchilla whom I've adopted from the humane society. Now recently I've moved into a new place and of course I brought her along and she seems to be getting comfortable with the place. I've started letting her out in the family room since there's no furniture there yet and she's been going around biting things. I looked up that a sharp noise like a snap or clap will distract her enough to stop what she's doing. But she hasn't been listening, so she continues to go and bite things. I don't want to use a spray bottle because of her fur. Whats a good way to get her to stop doing bad things without hitting, yelling, or spray her with a bottle.

Put her in an area where she can't get at stuff she isn't supposed to. Either build her a playpen out of cardboard or buy a ferret playpen with a top or bottom.

The only reason that clapping works is it distracts them, temporarily. You're not going to be able to get a chin to stop doing what comes naturally to them, and chewing is like breathing to them. It's what they do.

If you don't want her to chew stuff, either put her in an area where she can't, or move all the stuff you don't want chewed.

There really is no way to get her to stop chewing on things. It is just what they do. You watch them really closely, and try to move all things that you don't want a chunk taken out of out of the play area.

I recently bought a play pen for my chins, and I love it. I set it up in our TV room in front of where we sit. And we can watch movies, or my fiance will play a game and I can read a book, and just keep a close eye on them. (because some of them WILL jump out from time to time)

good luck!

You really cant discipline a chin. Squirting or hitting it is a very bad idea and the chin will resent you. Other then "chin proofing" your room (which should always be done) theres not much you can do

Sometimes my chins try to chew the baseboard. I tried clapping and that usually works...for a few minutes. From what I've heard you can't discipline a chin. I just do my best to chin-proof the play area and watch them closely to prevent excess damage!

Clapping or making any loud noise will only momentarily distract them. Also i swear that only makes some chins want it all the more. If you dont want something chewed either move it or watch them closely.

They should always be supervized during play time anyhow
