I know it was brought up earlier about some of the Acai fads...and Acai in general but I wanted to see if anyone has actually done a diet (fad or not) that has actually worked for them.

My personal opinion is good ole exercise and healthy eating is probably one of the "best" ways but I do understand that everyone having different body types, some diets do actually help or aid in weight loss. I know Weight Watchers is a big one and I do know people that it has actually worked for.

My mom's side struggles with weight gain/loss and my mom is the diet-queen, meaning over the years, she's tried just about EVERYTHING. And that is literal. She's tried pills, Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, just exercising, low carb, low fat, low sugar, low everything...a lot of stuff and some of it has worked, most of it hasn't. Now she's back to just walking and trying to eat right which is safer IMO, so I'm glad. I've done quite a few things myself but have struggled also, got the mom's genes as far as that goes.

Anyhow, I was just what some others have tried and what has worked for them?

For me, I've lost 23 pounds with just the classic diet and exercise and I've kept it off for a year now. I do have a gym membership at 24 Hour Fitness, but I only go there to do the classes -- I get bored on the treadmill or anything else by myself. So I do some kickboxing and step classes there, and I bought a Wii Fit for days that don't feel like going to the gym. I LOVE my Wii Fit. =)

I eat about 1200 to 1600 calories a day, but I'm also pretty short at 5' 3". I don't prohibit any foods, but just eat them all in moderation.

www.caloriecount.about.com really helped me as well. The tools, as well as the forums, helped to keep me on track!

There's really no secret fix as I've learned... proper diet and exercise seems to be the only real thing that has not only helped me lose weight, but more importantly, KEEP it off!

From what I've heard about Acai, it doesn't lose the weight for you. Instead, it creates a long-lasting feeling of fullness so you're not tempted to snack. Additionally, it's a natural form of energy so you're more likely to do some exercise rather than lounging on the couch after a long day of work. It doesn't tote itself as a miracle weight loss pill, but rather, a supplement to make weight loss a little easier when using traditional means.

Adam uses something called Chia seeds. They're little seeds that one adds to food or drink that suppress the appetite. They're full of fiber too. From what he tells me, he mixes a small cap full with a bottle of water in the morning after breakfast and he's not hungry until lunch. By lunchtime, he'll only be slightly hungry, so he won't gorge himself. Then, the feeling of fullness lasts until supper, when he has a good-sized portion of vegetables and meat. Before bed, he adds another half cap full of the seeds to a bottle of water and drinks it. It keeps him from snacking at night and tides him over until breakfast. He pairs this with a proper diet and exercise, and he sees results a bit faster. Like anyone else, he's more willing to work out if he starts to see results - even as simple as his pants feeling slightly looser or his shirt hanging a little better.
