yup just read that a bit ago. I think it's ridiculous too. I want to rescue a dog and will of course go to shelters but someday I do want a purebred puppy in which I will be going to someone who knows what they're talking about...a good breeder rather than these poor puppy mills.

That's a shame. Unfortunately there ARE some wacky animal right activists that ruin it for those of us that care about animal welfare but know that threatening someones life and ruining their life is NOT cool.

I'd comment on Peta's statement, but that's not allowed on here.

That's really horrible for that woman though.

Since she was found not guilty on all those tickets she should sue the investigators to get at least her legal fee's back. Then sue for harassment.
As for PETA and there statements.....pfffffffffffttttttttttttt don't get me started.

Wow that is horrible for her. It is all the cruddy BYB that give all us reputable breeders a bad name. Just stinks!

I think it stinks that someone gets into office and immediately needs to get a puppy to boost their popularity.

Chris & i were just talking about this. As i do agree shelters should be at least your first stop to look, sometimes thats not for everyone & better to go to a good source verses a mill, store, or a bad breeder.

There is really no need for people taking this out on that poor lady, if ANYONE the purchaser! Absolutely uncalled for simply because they didnt make the choice everyone was routing for. Its their lives, they have to care for it, they paid for it & most importantly hopefully they will take GREAT care of it & offer it the best home possible!

Its insane some of the things people will do simply because someone didnt do what THEY felt was right. It makes us people who love animals look crazy because they couldnt find a way to protest it without threatening.

Meanie, you crack me up.. I agree with you and Liz.

I feel really bad for that woman, she doesn't deserve this. The Biden's have a right to get a puppy from wherever the heck they want to. I think it IS an honor that they chose her. And now she's getting death threats and such. This sorta goes along with the same things we're talking about in the ban non-native species bill thread.

Reminds me of that incident with Ellen, too. People have rights, geez.

Kinda sad that a quick search on petfinder brought up 14 other PWD he could have chosen from, too... A few are poodle mixes. Now that would've REALLY been hypoallergenic :Sarcasmd:

And half of them,if you read the descriptions, are really "we have no idea what breed this dog is because we found it on the street." The rest don't say so, but my guess is that they don't know for them either. Chances are, they're calling them PWD/crosses because they figure they're going to be popular. This is *NOT* a common breed. A year ago, those same dogs would've been called poodle crosses (which is probably closer to the mark).

Actually, a few are in PWD rescues on petfinder. I was referring to the fact that the family wants a hypoallergenic dog (which there really is no such thing), and seems to think that crossing it with a poodle automatically makes a dog HA.

That's just ridiculous. While I do think people should try to help out shelter pets, some people just do want a dog from a reputable breeder. I would like to show 1-2 breeds of dogs when I'm older and have more money. Sorry, but I'm gonna go to a reputable breeder to get those dogs.

Another thing that kills me - the breeder she bought the puppy from - they were cited for kibble on the floor and 5 dog hairs. But does anyone notice...the USDA licenses puppy mills???? It's ridiculous. We're gonna drive the good breeders out of breeding, yet the puppy mills are never checked on for this SAME stuff, and you KNOW they would come up with a gazillion violations if they went and checked those....

The way I figure it, public figures should be more than welcome to own a dog, regardless of the avenue they choose to obtain it. However, it's their responsibility, as public figures, to show proper ownership and responsibility. Show the general public how a dog should be treated, give it the proper food, toys, training and exercise... and make it a good member of the family.

It's terrible what they are putting this breeder through! I totally agree with greychins as far as why they aren't using their resources on these puppy mills instead.
