Okay so not too long ago i was inquiring in chat about these sounds my chinchillas make, they make it at the same time during playtime.. and its barely audible chirps. It’s cute when I thought it was a happy sign.

Now, when I went to take the male out of the cage to do a hair-ring check, he made the same sounds from beginning to end! And I doubt he was happy!

How is this explained..
I'm worried my chins aren't happy or comfortable in the play area, and figuring out these sounds would help me out alot.

Again, their low, soft chirps and they do it together simultaneously.. and its constant as well.

Chirping and cooing are generally signs of a chin calling out to other chins. When a chin is not happy it makes a distressed sound such as barking or kacking. If your chins are not doing this then they are not distressed. Most likely they are simply calling out to other chins.

Do you have a male and female playing together. That could be mating calls. Do you know that it only takes 1 second for a male to breed a female?? If you have a male and female chin please do NOT let them out together

I think you just have a very relaxed, verbal chin who LIKES hair ring checks, or at least doesn't mind them. Somewhere on this site is a link to a database of chin noises. You can listen and compare.

My chins make happy soft chirps when they are running around during playtime. I think its a chinchilla version of, "We are Family... I've got all my herdmates with me."

Chinchy makes these soft little chirps when he gets out to play, and particularly when he gets "antsy". It seems to me like it's some sort of mating-related thing and/or he just can't control his excitement. It seems like he's happy to me though.

at least with my chins, when their being vocal unhappy or what not, theirs no mistaken it. Sound aside, you can can hear it in their tone.

If you were taking him out of cage for a check, maybe he doesnt like being picked up. I no all mine hate it.
