Starting this with must be cheap!

I was going to make my daughter a bed. Like a short loft bed with a doll house underneath it. She is into these Monster High dolls ( "monster" barbies basically).

Anyway, one of her "friends" is an only child who gets everything she wants. They don't have a nice house or anything, I swear that the husband's entire paycheck goes for food and crap for the kid. Anyway, my daughter gets so frustrated because she will save her money and buy a new doll, then next thing you know the other girl has that one plus two more. It's starting to get to the point where I'm thinking about saying she can't play with her often because my daughter is starting to get a "you owe to me" attitude because she feels like it's not fair her friend gets all of this stuff and she doesn't.

ANYWAY, I wanted to make her this bed, and I made the mistake of telling her, she told her friend and guess what... now her friend is getting a loft bed and is going to put her doll house ( that they just started making her after I had the bed idea) under it.

I'm sick of this game, I just want a cool idea to update her room or bed ( she has a basic twin right now) and thought maybe you guys could offer suggestions.

super cheap way to add the best personal flair to a room - chalkboard paint! this lets your kiddo 'decorate' to her heart's desire, and she can change it up as often as she wants. you can get chalkboard paint in colours other than black, i think, so the room won't look all emo/goth, lol.

one i think looks cute if done right (it can also look really tacky! lol) is all one colour of christmas lights, strung up around the room where the ceiling meets the wall. it never looks right with the green corded lights, so you do need to find the white cord ones. a bulb colour that complements the wall colour/room decor would be really pretty. the 'icicle' style lights hung over a valance on the top of a window looks cute, as does the same lights over the headboard of the bed, if the headboard is tall enough.

sometimes even just a new bed set (comforter, sheets, etc), a couple pieces of artwork, and curtains for the window really does a lot to update a room :))

How about turning her whole bedroom into a dollhouse! You could paint her bedroom door like a big dollhouse door and maybe paint some features on her walls to make it look like the inside of a dollhouse. You could still build her bed up like you are talking about, just make a dollhouse in a dollhouse!:hmm:

I've thought about giant white board... they have that paint or just putting up melamine...

Dollhouse inside of a doll house... I may have to roll that one around a bit!
