I need help.

The computer in room has internet but it just randomly stopped working. When I connect to the internet, it says theres no dailtone. I checked the phone line to my computer by using a phone and it works. my moms internet still works too. (both computer are connected to the same internet cord)
Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

So you're using dialup? Maybe your modem isn't working properly and you should check it under Device Manager to make sure its not disabled. Whats your OS (operating system) and the company you get your Internet from (ISP)?

I would try to reinstall the modem if possible.

this page may help you out - usually just uninstall the modem after you've found software that you can replace it with (via another computer, slap on disk, upload onto your computer) or through a disk you got with your computer - then reinstall the modem

if that doesn't solve your problem, your modem may just be shot, but if you're using a pc then a 56k modem is VERY VERY cheap to purchase and they even have them at walmart and if it comes down to it, i can walk you through putting a new modem in (I've been building pcs since I was 12)

Sometimes you can just reseed the plugs. SO take the plug of the computer and plug it back in, could be it became loss too. Are all the lights on the modem when you try to connect? That's something to look at too. Also is the phone wire frayed at all that could also be it, so check that too. You can also go into the properties to make sure everything is correct. Sometimes windows is great for corrupting itself so I would check that too [your properties]. Good luck.

Are you and your mom trying to connect at the same time? Or are you trying to connect when your mom is already on? Might sound like a 'duh' answer, but it's the only other thing I can think of as well. Most dial up services you can only connect one comp at a time.

I'm with Jean, I'm seeing more dead modems, they do wear out. Most common ailment of 'no dial tone' when everything's been going smooth for some time.

Have the connection sounds on your modem changed at all?

That's what I tought. I don't even knoe if a router works on dial-up.

Also don't forget the ultimate fix-it with computers... turn off computer, turn off power, unplug and replug your phone cord (on both ends), make sure it's all seated in right, and turn computer back on again. (you could just try rebooting, but that's not as thorough ;P). I seem to recall most of the dial tone problems I had with dialup were when the phone cord got loose though. I think trying to log on when someone else is already on came up with a different error (maybe busy signal? I forget) than "no dial tone."

I tried toubleshooting. There is no connection sound. The computer is showing no problem with the modem at all.
I'm was trying to connect my computer only at the time and it don't work. when I connect mom it works.
Daddy doesn't want me to miss with the modem or anything. he said he was going to take it to the computer guy he bought it from.

Talked to the pc repair guy and explained everything to him. Answered his questions, etc...he said lightening ran my phone line and got my modem.
So now I need a new modem.

It didn't get my moms because she has a shock thing attached to hers or soemthing like that.
