I just bought a bird toy for my chinchilla made of cotton rope, dyed pine shapes and coconut fiber...is this safe to give her? I remember seeing that coconut straw is safe and rope as well...is the fiber safe too??? Thanks!:)

Cotton rope is not safe for chinchillas. I only use untreated sisal rope for toys.

From what I understand coconut fiber is safe.

I see coconut rope is safe. Iv seen bird toys with half a coconut shell. Is the shell safe with the coconut hair on it?

I'm glad sisal rope is ok, I gave my boy a mat made of it, and took it away after he began demolishing it. Good to know.

Coconut fiber is safe for chins, but you have to make sure it is untreated. My chins love to chew on broken coconut shells!

Some sisal rope is safe, but the stuff you get at hardware stores and similar places I believe has been treated with (car type) oil for lubrication so the rope friction in the factory doesn't cause a fire. Not safe for chewing.

My family LOVES to eat coconut. So would you say its safe that once all the coconut is out i can just give her the shell?
