Two of my girls had their tails clipped when I showed them for fun at the Barneveld show two years ago. I'm guessing it took almost a year for their tails to look completely natural again. After a few months their tails were bushier than totally clipped but you could still see that they weren't totally grown out.
Mind you, I have only experienced two clipped tails. I sure someone who has experienced many clipped tails over many years can give you better information. I'm just relaying my very limited experience.
sorry...can you please inform a non-chin owner as to why you clip the tail fur for show? Not that I'll ever be showing chins...but I might just have a chin someday..
It's to help make the chin look neater, and just in case the tail is dirty and the color reflects back onto the fur. This is especially for whites, as their tails are darker and dirty looking sometimes.
If he has a white tipped tail, trimming the hair wouldn't get rid of it... If his tail is all black now, it's not going to turn white as the hairs grow out.
