Okay, so you all know if you read my "Lost one of my boys" thread that I'm working on getting Choochi's cage up to safer standards for chins. Thanks for the advice.
My next question is about taming. What I'm doing now is just taking Choochi out once a day and holding him for a few minutes. Stroking him and speaking softly. I would like him to be tamer since he doesn't have a buddy anymore. We're not getting another chin for him as a buddy because I don't want to have that dental problem with another chin and have to be heartbroken again.
I am giving Choochi hay every day. Right now what I have is rye hay and a mix of alfalfa and orchard grass. Is it okay to feed him this on a regular basis or should I get timothy hay for him? Or is there something better?
As for taming, please share with my how you tamed your chin and give me any pointers. He now runs from me when I approach the cage (as I would expect) because I've been picking him up and he's not used to it. He doesn't bite, but he might gently nip me trying to get me to put him down. But I think it will be better for him to be handleable so that I will feel if he loses weight. Oh and I did order a gram scale as recommended.
Thanks again.
