I was looking at one of my boys' back feet today and I noticed that the fur on the toe, on the back foot, closest to the inside, was a lot thicker, and it was much more uniform, it kind of looks like small whiskers. I checked my other boy and he had the same exact thing.

My question is, what may this be used for? What is the purpose?
I can try to get photos if anyone wants to see what I mean..

Do you mean that line of fur they have on their back toes, around where their knuckles would be? When I first got Chloe I thought she had a scratch or something until I realized she had a line, really a dividing line in her fur on most of her toes.

I have no idea what it's for, it may have no purpose just be how they evolved.

I found a picture where you can kind of see it. This picture is from when Chloe injured her toe (her left middle one, you can see on the right of the image her middle toe is swollen) but I circled the line of missing fur and it's in all of her outside toes. I always thought her skin looked red there and it may be but I think it's more in comparison to her white fur. If I remember correctly, I think I've seen it in other photos of chins.
