Hi my chinny has just had babies, wasn't expecting this as was told she was a HE! not sure what to do with babies, mum seems to be looking after them well, I have left her to it, I weighed them today and they were approx. 2oz's in weight is this ok for 3 days old? I have 3 adult chins already and im hoping to keep the babies but am I a little worried as these are the first babies we have had

Hello and welcome to CnH. Congrats on your unexpected addition. We'd love to see pix! Just let mom do her job and make sure the babies can't escape through the bars of the cage if that is the set-up you have for them. They can squeeze through tiny spaces. There is a lot of info on here, just do a search or ask a question and everyone will jump in with good advice. Good Luck!

If she is still in with the other male chinchilla, he needs to be removed. Check under the breeding faq for basic information on kits. I would weigh them daily to make sure they are growing well.

Just a quick note: weigh the babies in grams not ounces. Grams are a much smaller unit of measure making any change more noticeable. Also, watch to make sure the kits are not fighting. This is a sign that the mother does not have enough milk.
