I need a run down on things I need to make sure are put away, covered, or taken care of so that my room is chinchilla proof. I know the cables and wire thing but I am looking for more in depth instructions to make sure that I get everything. Thanks.
Cover couches, beds, chairs, dressers, and other things like that, I always cover the door too, but that's cause I have cats and they like to stick their paws under the door and I'm sure my chin could some how manage to get under the door, so you may wanna cover that too, if your chins a chewer take rugs out, also cover heat vents just incase they turn on when your chins are near or on them when they turn on, of course take any plastic thing that can and probably will end up being chewed, its really not much more then that I can think of, good luck with chin proofing your room!
There's kind of an extra dimension to consider with chins that you wouldn't have to worry about with most small animals - up! That was the main test of my chin-proofing, I found, I quickly discovered that what I'd thought was 'out of reach'...often wasn't. I certainly wasn't expecting the little ratbag to swarm up my bookcase using a series of jumps off the wall, from one shelf to the next. My more treasured volumes weren't as safe as I thought they were on the higher shelves (haha, I don't think I even own any unchewed books any more), and I didn't exactly want him going up that high, either. They will chew, only thing you can do is put anything you really don't want chewed away. Although, this is a bit hard when what they are trying to chew is the skirting boards or worse, an inviting bit of the wall (groan), only thing you can do then is block it off.
If there's any furniture they can get under, (and they can fit under amazingly small gaps), make sure it isn't going to be too hard to get them out, or again you'll want to block it off. Good luck!
Based on your Chins, there may not be such a thing as a 'chin-proof' room. No matter how much you cover up, put up or move, the little boogers can find something!
We thought our room was chin proof. Wrong. They have found out they LOVE to eat the WALLS! They go to the wall and chew on it. Its a non-stop problem we have keeping them from the wall.
You can try all you want, but in the end if they want to chew on something, you will have your hands full.:hair:
