Hello,
My chin woke me up two nights ago when I heard him wheezing/crying. And not the "normal" variety when they're having nightmares or something — it sounded awful.
There was nothing open at 3 am when he began, so I held him and petted him for a while. He calmed down and the wheezing stopped. I took him to the vet in the morning; he wasn't wheezing but his breathing was labored. He got x-rayed; unfortunately inconclusive. The vet gave him a shot (in case of heart condition, which could also cause breathing issues if it's not a URI) and sent us home with azithromycin and critical care. (Hope the azithromycin works out better than Baytril, which he didn't do well at all with. I never want to put him on Baytril again unless it's a last resort.)
This morning the poor kid started wheezing again. It's the saddest thing; I wish he could tell me exactly what's wrong. I held him again. He doesn't normally like sitting still for a long time, but now he seems to understand and likes being comforted. He was very good at the vet, too.
Anyway, I recorded the sounds and am uploading them. I'll leave these here as a resource for anyone looking for sick chinchilla sounds.

Listening to them again is horrible
Just curious if anyone else has heard this before; maybe that could help narrow it down? I'm also going to send them to the vet.
