Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if you could help me out?
I have a chinchilla she is about 2 years now.
i've had her for up to a year now.
The problem is everytime I try to grab her she'll tend to bark at me.
When, I say grab her meaning just to let her out and i got her used to the fact of letting her out and just opening the cage door so she'll know its time to play or run around. She won't let me grab her but when i grab her gently with a fleece blanket she doesn't bark..its kind of frustrating. :broken:
i also don't know why she's wasting her food..
she eats out of a feeder i bought from a breeder and she tends to waste all of it at one point. I love her to death but sometimes i feel like she's not used to me or am i doing something wrong??
i know she isn't stressed because there is NO hair loss, i check for bald spots, she eats and drinks a plenty amount and chews on her blue cloud rock.
She'll let me scratch her neck and she loves her ears gently tugged, she'll know when i give her a treat she'll run straight to the cage.;)

am i just worried or is there something wrong?
is she lonely??
i know chinchillas aren't meant to be cuddled but is it normal for her not wanting me to take her out to the point she'd snap and bite me but its okay to take her out with a fleece???:hmm:

please help and no rude remarks please..

Some chins just act like that in their cage. I don't let it deter me. If I have to get them out, I get them out. 98% of the time they are absolutely fine once they are out of a cage. Try not to stress over it too much. If she's fine with the fleece, use the fleece. Or, put the dust bath in the cage and when she jumps in, scoop up her and the dust bath.

Second question, yes, some chins waste food. When I watch my chins eat, they take a pellet in paw, bite the top half off, throw the bottom half down and go for another one. I have no idea why other than that chins are weird.

My boys do exactly what Tunes said. They tend to eat half and throw the other half down. In the end, though, they tend to eat much more than they waste.

As far as her barking at you, as was said, most chins do not enjoy being cuddled. If you need to pick up your chin, I would just go for it and ignore the barking. If she has found that barking at you makes you not pick her up, she will continue doing it because it gets her what she wants.

Chins are interesting creatures. I think you are probably doing great, she is just trying to train you or just prefers the touch of fleece to your hands.

I have a 1.5 yr old chin that I've had since she was 6 months old. She came from an abusive home where she discovered if she was being squeezed or having her whiskers pulled, and she barked or bit them, they would throw her down and she could hide. She still had that mentality up until a month or two ago. You just have to work with the chin and let them know that their barking, biting, does not deter you & you'll still pick them up. Athena bit me to the bone within the first month I had her. It's important to remember that no chin is perfect. You just have to be gentle/loving with them and they'll get the clue eventually. Everyone told me Athena was a lost cause, but I didn't give up and she eventually came along on her own.

Good luck though !
