Chinchilla not eating Hay

Hi all, i just bought a chinchilla last week. The shopkeeper told me to feed only hay for the 1st week, after that i can feed her with the pellet. I have been feeding her small amount of pellet(around 1 tea spoon full) in the past 3 day. She had been eating lesser and lesser hay in the past few day. Today i found out that she do not eat any hay since the morning, she was like waiting for me to put the pellet in her bowl. And i think that she was like losing weight. What should i do? Feed her more pellet?

I would say you could free feed pellets if the poops aren't runny. (Or maybe it's the other way around, pull the hay if the poops are runny? Someone please correct me!)

What hay are you feeding? And do you know how fresh it is? What cut is it?

Free feed her the pellets and the hay. If she stops eating completely her guts will freak out and you will end up with a chin in stasis.

You can try feeding different types of hay. Also, you can try mixing in some alfalfa; this usually encourages chins to eat more hay.

Free feed pellets and hay. You can buy different hays and mix them together. Bluegrass, Orchard Grass, Alfalfa...just to name a few.
