Chinchilla Noises

I was sitting at my kitchen table and our chinchilla (who is about 6 months old now) started making the strangest noises. It was not barking, and she was awake. I went over to her cage and she was just sitting there looking out her little fleece house. I reached in to give her a little scratch on her neck, and then left her alone. But 2 minutes later she started making the noises again! And continued to do so every 30 or so seconds. She didn't seem angry, but she persisted for about 10 minutes. It's not night time, its 5:30ish. I'm not sure what she wants, I offered a treat but she wanted nothing to do with it. Does anyone have any idea?

It could have been a warning call, she may have heard or smelled something that you can't and it scares her. Or she could just want attention.

rutherford does that sometimes, and i just assume he's heard something scary that human ears aren't able to catch. he is very persistent on warning me about it, so i just try to talk to him and let him know i'm here to protect him from scary things.
