Hi, is it ok for 2 female chinchillas to live together in the same cage whilst a male is alone in a different cage but in the same room? Or could this cause problems?

It shouldn't cause a problem. I have all of chins in one area, males with males, females with females, male/female pairs.

Most people worry about two males with a female in the room. Females could really give a rip about a male hanging around in the room with them.

If that was the case, then wouldn't ranchers need segregation of barns, the male and female only barns, same goes for smaller breeders. Its just another internet blather spread by those that have no idea. If chins are going to fight, they are going to fight, period.

The only thing that's going to determine if they get along is the chins them selves. Some chins like cagemates and others don't. Is there any reason you are looking for both sexes? Its very easy to have a oops moment and wind up with a unexpected litter. Why not stick with 1 sex?

Thank you for the replies, I really appreciate the help. I have 2 girls but recently took a male in unexpectedly so I wanted to make sure that this wouldnt cause any problems, better to be safe than sorry.
