Hello - I posted about my Chinchilla's sickness here and got some advice,
http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34150
Since then we went to a new vet based on a recommendation on here. He took Xrays and diagnosed an infection in her teeth and that she had 'spurs' all along them and they'd need filing down. He didn't want to put her under to do that though until she was stronger, she's very under weight. So he gave us antibiotics and had us feeding critical care 4 times a day. He wanted to try this for a month.
We did the antibiotics and have been continuing with the critical care. There was a short time where she started acting a little better, but then things got worse. We started feeding yogurt as per the doctor's recommendation after the antibiotics were done about a week ago. But now over the past couple of days she has intense diarrhea and is acting very very ill. She doesn't want to run around (not that she was much anyways) or do anything but sit on us when we let her out. She goes straight to us like a lapdog and just sits there bunched up. As soon as we come near the cage she tries to get out to come see us. Her eyes seem half open all the time and her face looks puffy.
She's also sitting at the bottom of her cage and sleeping in her wheel rather than in her fleece tube like she used to.
She is eating a little hay and a little pellets, but of course way less than what used to be normal. The second vet that was recommended is on vacation now so even if he can do anything we'd have to bring her to some other vet - probably the one you guys didn't trust of her diagnosis.
Any recommendations? We put Pedialyte in her water and planned to try a little apple cider vinegar later. We also were giving alfalfa for a little to get her eating, but she ate it like it's crack so we thought we should stop that. We were also going to stop the yogurt today because we thought maybe that was causing the diarrhea. He had us stop the last night time feeding of Critical Care to hopefully get her to eat more of her food.
