Hey all, glad I found a chinchilla forum!

I have an emergency, and need some guidance because me and my girlfriend are novice with chinchilla's. At the moment, our chinchilla is missing a big patch of fur on the side of her back. She keeps scratching, biting, and rolling on her sides. She's been doing this for about 24 hours ( found a lot of fur on the bottom of the cage) and I also came across that she let's me pet her and check on her and it's a big red spot with some hair still there but stuck against the skin. (I don't want to scratch it so I'll say its stuck)

Please, looking for guidance on what might be the issue.

Something is definitely irritating her, whether it be from an injury (is she with another chin?) or a fungal infection. Fungal infections can cause severe itchiness, hair loss, and a red patch as you have noticed (also dry, scaly skin). I would take her to a chinchilla competent vet asap for a diagnosis and treatment and beware- fungal infections can be zoonotic (spread to you).

I have a female chinchilla and her name is Hunny. I've had her for about two years now, which she actually lives with my girlfriend (she suffers from depression, and recently lost her dog and since having a chinchilla she's been more loving about things).

Seeing Hunny missing hair and her actually allowing us to touch her on the area to examine it really bothered us. I'm scared it could of been a inflection from the new night stand that she loves to hide under or a possibility of mold from that furnature (her family member brought it but we're inspecting every possiblity to ensure everything is safe for her).

I was looking online for a spray, to help her.. A vet might be too expensive for me unto July and I honestly need an alternative until I can take her to a professional so if I could provide any pictures that might help us solve this or if you know of any DIY stuff I can by to treat her please let me know!!
