Today i noticed my Chinchillas right eye was a bit closed and red around it. I held it up close and noticed that it looked like its swollen around it and the eyelids are covering most of his eye. It also seemed wet around his eye area so i looked online and found that i should take a warm towel and gently clean it so i did. His behavior doesnt seem to much different. I saw him eating hay and when i pass by the cage he usually stands up wanting a treat. I am going to take him to a vet tomorrow but until then i want to know what the problem is. Its wet around his eye in the picture because of the water i wiped it with.

It could be conjunctivitis or a dust irritation. Possibly an allergy to bedding. Maybe issues with his teeth or even an underlying upper respiratory infection. A visit with an experienced vet is the best thing to figure out what's going on.
In the meantime, wash your hands really well before and after handling him in case it is conjunctivitis.

I thought about it and a couple nights ago as he was playing he got past the barrier i set up in front of the tv and started chewing wires so as i was trying to get him out i felt my finger poke him somewhere and i thought it was either the nose or the eye. So im gonna take a guess that it was the eye and i made an appointment for the vet today. Wish me luck! :cry3:
