I moved my chinchilla's cage today when I was leaving for work. I guess I inadvertantly put it by an outlet with a lamp plugged in (the lamp was not on). Daisy chewed through the cord. I didn't realize until I got home (like 10 hours later). There were black marks on the bar and some of her whiskers are missing. She seems to be acting ok though besides rubbing her face with her paw? All her fur is there. I feel so horrible, I don't know what I should do. Any suggestions?

I had this happen to a chin years ago. She may have burned her mouth which will cause her to not be able to eat, and the shock can zap them of their hydration and mess with their internal organs. My guy seemed ok at first, but went downhill over a couple of days. It seems to be a delayed reaction for some reason when they get shocked.
Is she still eating, drinking, pooping? Active as normal or lethargic? The rubbing of her face is concerning, as more than likely it is a response to pain. She may have gotten burned either on her face or in her mouth. A burn in the mouth is obviously painful, and will lead to her not wanting to eat, which in turn leads to GI stasis. If it were my chin, I would get some Critical Care ordered just in case for handfeeding, and a vet visit with a chin experienced vet asap to check for burns. I would also want subcutaneous fluids just in case to head off dehydration, and possibly pain medications to help with the mouth. Metacam at this point, no opioids as they can affect appetite and activity level.

This actually happened to my chin. A wire that I usually hung up out of reach fell down, so one of my chins pulled it through the cage and chewed it.

I rushed mine to the vet and he told me there was minor electrical burns. My chin wasn't eating much so I fed him CC until his mouth was healed enough to eat. The lamp was on when he did it and he got quite a shock. I was terrified that he was going to die, as people mentioned problems popping up a little later.

My vet gave me some cream for his mouth. Not sure if that was the best option but that was the only vet willing to see him right away. He's perfectly fine now, you wouldn't even know. Needless to say, the lamp is no longer in that spot ._.
