Hello all!

So I am finally going to be bringing my little chinchilla *Peaches* home. I know many people who own chinchillas have cats, dogs and other animals... My question really is...how did you introduce your chin to these other animals and vise versa? I currently have a rescued budgie named Marco, he is very very tame...does not bite or scream and does tricks etc. I spend quite a bit of time with him, as he will sit on my shoulder or on the couch when we watch TV. I am wondering how to introduce the two once Peaches comes home? I would like to be able to have Marco out as usual, perhaps while I have Peaches out for playtime...any suggestions? What have your experiences been?

Thanks

As a general rule it is not recommended to introduce your chin to other species of pets or to let them play together. I know rabbits, cat, and dogs are all able to pass illnesses that may be dormant in their bodies to a chin and that illness can cause a lot of harm to the chin. That being said, I have no idea about chins and birds. I'm sure someone else on here does though :)

In my home I have two cat and they both go into a separate room when the chins are having their playtime. My chins are in a big FN and during the day the cats have access to the living room where their cage is, but they show zero interest in the chins (if they ever started to show even a little bit I would have to move the cage to a permanently cat-free zone). I have never considered allowing them to be out together in the same room since cat are natural predators and chins are natural prey animals. Too big of a risk on that front.

But again, I have no idea about chins and birds so it will be interesting to see what others have to say about it.

^^ That

Also cats and dogs are natural predators no matter how tame. And it only takes one mistake, or one swipe of a paw to cause serious problems. To me, its not worth the risk. I wont allow other pets near my chins.

Also, i have no idea about birds either.
