About a week ago I found a whisker in my chinchillas cage and got worried, but when I looked it up online it said that it's normal for a chinchilla to lose a whisker here or there. And then 2 days ago I found 2 whiskers, and as I searched I found many more! I called the woman who I got my chin from and she called some breeders that she knows, and they had three questions 1) have you changed her diet 2)is she losin fur 3)does she have diarrhea. My answer to all of those questions is no. I have ran my hands through her fur and none is coming out. She seems to be acting normal. So the woman told me that she might just be goof through a phase where she is shedding her whiskers. But the TODAY I found two in her dust bath and another in her cage. So now all together I have found Alot! I am worried. The only thing that has changed in the past weeks is that I got her a new cage, made her some beautiful fleece liners. Someone if this has happened to you please tell me. Am I worried over nothing or should be concerned? I'm so worried so someone please help.
Thanks in advance,
Sara

Are you sure they are all whiskers? I know the tail hairs are pretty thick.

I've honestly never had that problem so I can't offer any advice. Maybe call a chin vet and ask them what they think?

Douse she like to play though the cage bars? I know Luna likes too and sometimes it rubs off some whiskers. So If she is playing though the bars of the cage (sticking her nose out and stuff) she could just be rubbing them off. Or it could be stress. My aunt had a chinchilla when she got upset she would pull at her whiskers. But they will grow back.

Yes I am sure they are whiskers. Anf she does like to stick her nose though the bars, but she's always done that. And this is the first I've noticed of it. But that does sound reasonable. And the stress, well I don't know why she would be stressed. I guess its possible, but I don't think thatswhat it is. Because when I pulled her dust bath out last night there was two in there, so they must have fallen out while she was rolling around. I'm hoping I'm just worrying over nothing :/

If there is no irritation in the area where the whiskers grow, I don't think that there is anything to worry about.

One of my chin sheds a lot of whiskers (way more than my other chin) but they always grow back fast. As long as all your chins other conditions are healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.
