I have 5 chins, father and son in one cage, mother and two daughters in another cage. With a cardboard attacheed inbetween them so they cant see each other. Reason being when chico (fahter) see sophie (mother) and cant get to her, he starts going crazy which has seemingly lead to seazures.

But latly he has jsut been stareing at their cage and squeeling off and on. A lot more then usual. Theirs nowhere else i can move him or the cage right now. And i feel bad every time he starts going off. Is their anyhting else that can help him? (he compltly ignores the stuff chinchilla toy)

Maybe she is in heat, I can't imagine why he hasn't chewed through the cardboard, all of mine would have. You need to get another cage asap

I think Godofgods does have the males and female in separate cages. The cardboard wall she's talking about is between the two cages so the male can't see his former mate through the bars.

other than finding somewhere else to have one of your cages, there's not much to be done i think.

one thing i'm concerned about is that the father chin may turn on his son, because the female is so close by. you have two Ferret Nation cages, right? i'd be separating dad and son now, one into each level, just to play it safe.

correct. the males and females are in seperate cages. The cardboard on the edge so the cant se each other is attached to the females cage.

as for chico and his son houdini, so far they have not had any issues what so ever. And theyve been together since his birth in oct '10. In fact last week or two theyve been hanging around each other a lot more. Always standing side by side down on the bottem, just chillin next to each other. Youd almsot swear they were twins attached to each other or something lol.

it takes seconds for one chin to turn on the other. i'd separate the males. better to do that than have an expensive vet bill to repair damage from fighting, or worse, a dead chin.

Lots of people keep males together, even in a room with females. I would watch them, but separating them may be premature.

I agree - no reason to separate them now. I have kept same paired males together with females in the same room with no problems. Lots of people have

well the moma chin sophie has been in the same room with both males, since houdini was born on oct '10. The three of them even lived together during the time of him nursing.

When sophie was seperated form them she was already pregnet again. To which she had two daughters in feb '11. All of which accured with their cages next to each other (give or take an ich or two)

While i no the males are instictivly capable of fighting over a girl (big shocker their) hoenstly, strickly additude wise, I would expect it fromt he girls more. Granted they dont have that need the males do, but theirs three of them in that FN cage, and to two younger daughters are skiddish as ****. And so is momma to a good degree. But the kids are slowly coming around. Able to pet them now and then, and theyll nibbel on my hand. Which often hurts like ****, even if their not entending to hurt. But other times, if you even sigh to loudly for them, or take a deep breath, turn your head, anything, and theyll panic like ****. And if one panics, the other two will follow suit.

That being said, im sure that not being able to come out is not helping my guy. As some know, this apt absolutly sux. The largest repair ever made on this place was a coat of cheap paint. And the walls are coated in some stuff. Possibly the sticky compound used to place tiles on walls. And when the tiles were taken down, instead of removing it, they jsut painted over it.

So this crap can litterly peal off the wall. To which several of my chins turned into their primary activity when they were out. Which cant be good for them. They would tear sheets off, and run away to try and eat them. Sophie in particular is aggressive with it. You try to stop her, and shell shoot you, if you no what i mean. It even go to the point of them trying to eat through the walls itself.

I had tried covering the walls up with some cardboard, but sophie expecaly just tore through it, and would try to eat that instead. And i cant afford to get anything they wouldnt be able to chew through atm.

Since i cant get them to stop, and its realy not good for them, they havnt been comeing out for the last month or three. Which i feel realy bad about, buti cant have them ingesting that stuff. And theirs no other room i can take them to. They do however have a metal flying saucer wheel in each of their cages, so they are able to get some excercise.

But im sure being couped up is not helping chico any.

speaking of sophie, last two days iv noticed a very high desire in her to be sticking her head right into/up her daughers backside... like shes searching for treasure fo soemthing. Their a reason for this?
