Which do you prefer?

Also, I bought three of these used chin wheels from a retired breeder. Chins seem to like it. Have you ever used one of these? What are your opinions?

I would never use those for a chin. That wheel is toes waiting to be chopped off or a leg to be broken. As Laura said, the only truly good wheel for a chin has a solid running surface.

That wheel is completely unsafe. Chins should have a flat running surface or your asking for a broken leg or broken toes. Remove them immediately.

Both of those wheels are good. Just depends on the look you want in the cage really.

I agree - I would not use that toe amputating device for chins.

I agree. Those wheels that you have are not safe at all.

I have both and like both. The ChinSpin takes up more size on the sides of the cage and some also have problems with the powder coating chipping off.

The Flying Saucer takes up more floor space and some chins take some time to figure them out.

Ok. The breeder said that another breeder in OH or somewhere had invented this type of wheels and hand made them. It's strange that a breeder didn't think that was unsafe. I also have one wheel that has flat surface. I'll look into flying sourcers to replace these tree used wheels.

Not all "breeders" are reputable or know what is best for chinchillas. It's been proven time and again that a mesh running surface is a hazard to chinchillas.

It's a flying "saucer", btw. ;)

A less than desirable breeder in California also makes those types of wheels. All of the ones that have come here have gone straight in the trash.

Anyone can be a "breeder"....just because they put 2 opposite sex chinchillas together that produce babies does not make them a knowledgeable and reputable breeder. ;)

Lots of things have been invented that aren't safe. Those wheels used to be highly acclaimed...not anymore. People used to think cocaine was safe, too.

Also, again, they are called Flying SAUCERS. You're going to have a hard time searching for SOURCERS.

Ok. I am four buying flying Saucers now. I googled it and found a website called "chinworld.com". Do you recommend any other websites that might be better/cheaper than this? Also, I have to check if I can place them to the cages that I have.

Not really. I know of lots of things other breeders do that I would never even contemplate - like snipping the leg off of a broken limb with tin snips, trimming a chins teeth by themselves with nail clippers. One breeder I know of highly recommends throwing your chin in death balls for entertainment. What this wheel was was cheap for them to make and easy for them to charge for. That's all.

A flying saucer takes up LOTS of room, where as a chinspin does not. so if cage space is an issue, consider the chinspin instead. Chinworld.com is not a reliable source to buy from. If you hear from them, you'll be lucky. Most people give up on them and go somewhere else to buy their stuff.

Some pronounce it SOURCER. Like folks from the south.

Water is "Worter," Wash is "worsh," etc.

:tease:

Just because people pronounce it a certain way doesnt make that spelling correct. :wink2:

Ok! I am shopping now! I don't want my chins' fingers to be chopped off... I'm buying 3 wheels and 2 saucers. It's an investment for keeping my chins without injury!!!!
Plus, my chin vet (Eastern Exotic Vet in Fair Fax Virginia) Costs fortune. One visit for a couple of stiches for a small wound cost me $375!
