hi everyone-
i have 3 chins...two of them dont really get along too great when placed in the same cage...i was wondering if i should let them all play together outside of there cages or if i should still keep the two "fighters" separate...
also, i was going to gate off my kitchen and give them time to run around, should i be worried about them jumping the gate or crawling under the fridge and getting stuck???
thanks :hmm:

A kitchen is not a safe place for playtime for the reason you mentioned, going under the fridge, plus going behind the stove, chewing electrical cords, getting behind cupboards, etc. The bathroom, with everything put away, clean floor, and the toilet lid down, is a much better option.

You can try letting them all run together. If they squabble, then don't do it after that.

Yeah, I close the bedroom and bathroom doors and they play in the hallway. I just sit at the end and keep them from escaping. You can try joint playtime...who knows if it will work. They can never be left without supervision anyway

thanks!! i gated them all to my kitchen and hallway and all 3 had a great time running around with each other!! i did sit with them the whole time to watch them and to see if they all got along and they all did pretty well!! There was some chasing but im not sure if it was playful or not...how can i tell more accurately?? Also, how often does anyone think that i should try and re-introduce my two chins that dont get along? They are both around a year old...ive tried to get them together when i first got them a couple of weeks ago but it didnt go well once i put them into the same cage...not too sure what to do now
thanks

The two "alpha chins" are trying to become dominant over each other hence the friction. I vote leave the one by himself and invest in a cuddle buddy for him. I forget who it is on here who makes those...maybe someone else on here can help point you to who it is that makes cuddle buddies.

We have Cesare's playtime (that poor chin keeps getting his name changed - he was a she called Lucrezia) in the hallway. Close off the front room and bedroom doors and let him loose.

Hhe managed to escape in the front room the first day we got him and almost got stuck under the tv cabinet :/ Thankfully he squirmed his way out and thought it would be fun to crawl over the ps3.

Are they all the same gender? You don't want to be putting males and females together, that is rule #1 with chins.

Some chins will just never get along, ever. It's like a personality clash.

As for the chasing, some chasing initially is normal, but it will be more like they are playing Follow the Leader, with an occasional burst of speed. If they are running flat out top speed at each other and pouncing, that's aggression, and I would not let them play together again. Chins will bite each other's ears, hands or feet initially, so watch for that as well.
