I was curious as to how people on here handle chin pee on the carpet. I am crouching around on the floor trying to find the spots, but there is no discoloration and no noticeable smell, but I know I have seen my little guy pee when he is out.

my chin has a large playpen attached to her cage. When in her cage, she uses a litter pan. But when in the playpen, she'll sleep inside a large maze and will pee on the floor. I have since added a 2nd litter pan for her to use when in her maze, but her pee did discolor my carpet. To prevent any more damage to the carpet, I have bought two plastic office mats from Office Depot, and layed a sheet on top of it to prevent her from getting to it. The playpen sits on top of it and is positioned so she can't chew on it at all. Not only does it cool down her play area (it feels cool to the touch) but it keeps any future accidents from touching the carpet. But this works well for me because I don't give my chin free roam of any areas.

Ditto to the chair mats, those things are handy!
Otherwise, if you are just looking to clean it up, you can buy a black light (just a $20 one from Walmart or even a "party" bulb for an existing lamp). Turn the lights out and turn on the blacklight. Pee will glow! And to get it out, I like Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer. All you do is spray it on the spot and it disappears! It breaks the pee down so there isn't any smell left in the carpet, and it gets rid of the stain.

My carpet is white...so everyone can see everything! :(

I like to take a bowl of hot water and mix in a little bit of Oxyclean and some Odoban. I blot out the stain with a cloth until it's all come out. That seems to knock out the odor really well and get the stain out, but that's with the white carpet...I bet that the enzyme stuff would work really well on carpet of other colors without leaving any stains behind.

I sorta wonder, is baby chin pee like puppy pee? doesn't smell or stain. He is 10 weeks right now....

Sort of, you can get chin pee out of almost anything without any real staining. Eventually it would smell pretty bad if you let it really saturate a carpet pad and not clean it out....

But, I am going to get rid of the carpeting here as soon as I can...so I won't have to scrub it out anymore.

oy, ok. I will take some pics tonight and get some cleaning stuff tomorrow. Right now I still keep him in the hallway sectioned off during playtime since he is still small....when should I give him roam of the whole apartment?

I don't know! It depends on if you want him running around the entire apartment and what he can get into. I don't let them have free roaming privileges. Back when I did I ended up having so much of my things chewed up and destroyed. Not to mention that I have had a few chins hide on me and they scare me half to death with I haven't been able to find them.

hmm...well, I am a new owner. I did a ton of research, but of course that doesn't compare to having the actual chin experience. I know I would freak if I couldn't find the little dude one night.

I know! When I had my first chin I let him run around everywhere. After a few months I realized how much damage he had done to everything. He chewed on my books, shoes and pretty much everything else. Then, one day he got under the kitchen cabinets and would not come out. He was under there for days and days until I was able to catch him. That was scary and from then on I decided that we wouldn't be allowing for the chins to run around wherever they pleased. :)

It depends on where you live though. You probably live in a much nicer place than I had way back when...maybe doesn't have a giant gaping hole for the chinnie to get under cabinets! :D

Haha, well we have a giant gaping whole in between the couch cushions......We bought some fencing stuff to section it off though. I guess it will be a "learn as you go" experience. Right now he is too little to have the whole apartment, so we have some time to figure it out. Any tips are very much appreciated though :)

It does, we have white carpet too. I hate it, but we rent so not much we can do about it. I'm actually really impressed with the Urine Destroyer, I've used regular Nature's Miracle before and it kills the smell but doesn't do much for stains. This stuff is awesome! I put some in a spray bottle and just squirt it on the pee spots, and within hours its completely gone!

what i usually do for pee stains is just clean them up as soon as they happen.

gizmo's playtime is mostly on tile, but when he had playtime in my bedroom, id just watch him the whole time. i know when he's peeing when he scoots his butt into a corner, props his tail straight up, and stands still for a few seconds. soaking it up with a towel or tp right away has always done the trick. then after playtime, spray it with some resolve, let it dry, and its a long forgotten incident :)
