I recently purchased 2 male chins together. I had one male chin before who passed away. My question is this, my first chin used to constantly chew everything. every and any new chew toy i would put in he would love and chew it. My two new chins do not chew as much. I rarely see them chewing on their wood toys shelves or ledges. There is a little chewing on their wood house. I have had them about a week now. I also purchased a brand new cage, new hammocks, and new toys for my two new chins. I also purchased them at PetSmart which I noticed they did not have wood chew toys, just wooden shelves and the carefresh natural for their bedding.

I'm not sure if its just them getting used to their new environment. Right now they have 3 different type of chew toys in there. (lava, 2 types of wood, and a toilet roll )

Any thoughts?

Out of the seven chins here, I have a few that nibble on their wooden toys, a couple that hardly touch them or their shelves and one who is a crazy crazy chewer who literally demolishes a toy overnight. They're all so different.

I just bought this mammoth toy made of manzanita (ChinParkPlace) for my chew beast b/c I couldn't keep up to his demands. The boy has a lava dot a day habit as well; gets expensive. He also has re-designed every single wooden shelf in his cage so that they're are big cutouts that he can scoot through. He's very talented.

Some chins are bigger chewers than others. I have some that hardly chew at all One is 14 years old and has no teeth problems - just his nature

jaycee i would love to see the chins handywork lol.

some chins chew more than others nothing to be over concerned about. and they might chew a bit more when they get adjusted, or stay the same. congrats on your new additions, remember we love pictures!

thank you everyone for your responses! i recently just purchased some apple twigs and they love them. they chew on those more than they do other wood so I'm going to stick with purchasing them.

I would LOVE to see his cutouts! :)

You might be humored to see my chins throw out the "toothpicks" after I give them apple wood. I give them a pencil sized chew at night and they throw the toothpick out on the floor. It's a hoot!
Some of mine eat ledges. Some don't touch a thing. Others chew the wood houses and some will tear apart a fleece tunnel. Derned house beavers!!

It might be that they are still getting used to their new environment, it might be that they are young and it also might be as others have suggested here, just not big chewers.

When I first got my chins, they were very young, about 10 weeks old. They hardly chewed at all but as they got older they began to chew more and more.

Here's a few for you Ash. All the blue plastic has since been removed. I just think it's so neat to have a chin that has so much fun chewing on safe things. It's like sitting a kid down to a healthy meal and they actually eat it all up and want more, not like the picky kids who turn their nose up at everything.

As said some chins chew more than others, but also chins have preferences. It can depend on how the wood is processed ( store wood usually has less taste I think ), the kind of wood, and the size as well. Some chins love whirlies, some love coins, and some love sticks, some... just don't care and eat everything!
