I was wondering how often you guys bring your chins to the vet for checkups? I'd like to start having them checked every so often.

Mine only goes in when ill. Traveling can cause stress. A lot of times you can do the check yourself once you recognize what to look for. My monthly checks consist of teeth length n color, abdomen check, jaw line check, weight, eyes looks clear, private parts.

Once a year is a good idea. It's always a good idea to establish a relationship with a vet and he gets an idea on what's normal for your pet. Not to mention the fact if you have an emergency in the middle of the night a vet will refuse you if you are not a client of theirs.

I agree with Jess, good idea to go to vet, how else will you know if they are knowledgable, last thing you want is a vet that doesn't know what to do in an emergency.

I might go to a vet once just to get a feel for them, but I would not do yearly check ups. There is no point in spending the money, really. There is not a much a vet can tell you in a health exam that you couldn't tell yourself.

I'm not disagreeing with you about seeing them only once to get a feel however, I do feel vets can tell you more about your pet that you can't tell yourself. Heart murmurs, tumors, etc.

Not all pet owners are in tuned with their pets. Some people are completely oblivious to their pets until they are practically dead.
