Cats are EVERYWHERE...If you've visited Spain (Im sure there are other countries that are the same, some the same with dogs.) you'll have seen a fair amount of kittens/cats. None castrated..Running everywhere.

A few pics of the kittens around our area. They tell our community NOT to feed them....So we have skeletons walking around everywhere? Why dont they collect a couple of the males and castrate them...We pay community fees and that what they should be doing, :neener: I know no one will agree though?

These are 4 of about 16-20 kittens...

In the USA we have services that capture feral cats, spay or nueter them then release them where they were originally captured. I don't care what they say, I'd still feed them. The kittens you posted were adorable. Two of my very favorites are orange cats (I prefer them with no white at all) and black and whites. I'd take that black and white kitty in a heartbeat. I'm surprised with such a cat problem the town doesn't have some sort of plan for reducing the cats' ability to breed.

Not a cat fan, but there's no way I would let them starve. Pests or not, the solution isn't starving them to death.

There are a lot of feral cats here too. There is a lady I donate bags of cat food to. She told me she tries to capture them to get them spay/neuter and then releases them back. If she does trap a kitten she tries to find a home for it.

I am told that in some parts of Europe, spay/neuter of pets (and nonpets) is not standard as it is in the US. Thus the population problem. It's also not standard in many other parts of teh world, but I am less surprised by places that are relatively poor; Europe is considered to be a "developed" part of the world, so you'd think they'd spay and neuter their pets. Apparently not.

Aw, reminds me of Hawaii. On Oahu they have a large feral cat population.

I know my sister said in Italy too there's feral cats and dogs running around. And I do believe that in many other countries it's not as standard of a practice to spay or neuter their pets. Which I would think would only lead to more unwanted pets..

I knew a couple from Germany that visited our dog park. They had a little mutt that they adopted in Spain. We had a very interesting conversation regarding spay/neutering in Germany (maybe Spain, too??) and basically they do not spay or neuter unless it is a medical necessity. They do not believe in violating the animals in any way unless it is a matter of saving the life of the animal.

And spaying a dog with pyometra, or treating a dog for prostatitis is soooooooooo much fun. Not. I would so much rather do surgery on a young, healthy dog or cat under planned circumstances (which will, incidentally, cost less than doing surgery on a middle-aged-to-older sick pet on an emergency basis...). If you're not planning on breeding, why risk your pet's life for a half-dozen medical conditions that are easily prevented by a surgery when young?

In Brazil you'll see stray dogs running around everywhere people feed them and in some communities where it is the worst they have started administering birth control pills (made for dogs) to the dogs mixed in the food that is handed out.

I can't stand when people say "don't feed the strays. They'll just go away." Yeah WHERE? to starve?? Formerly domesticated cats set loose rarely know how to catch enough food to survive. Cats deserve more attention and rights. It ticks me off to no end how they are treated.

Dogs are a problem in the city I work in. There is a pack of about 20 of them that roam the streets. I literally have to drive down a different street and avoid seeing the pack or I would end up with another dog every night.
