I will never, ever trust Nutro again. My cat Boots (now 11 years old) was poisoned by their recalled food in March 2007 (the day before the recall came out) and she's had kidney damage ever since. I have to give her sub Q fluids daily and monitor her bloodwork with the vet every few months. She eats PetGuard food normally which was not recalled and which does not use Chinese ingredients.

I pray for all the animals who were affected by the recalls. I still haven't received a penny from the settlement.

In neither case was it really *Nutro's* fault... in this case, an American company messed up the mineral premix, and Nutro found it (unfortunately after they'd made and sent out the food) on their routine audits. Short term excess zinc might cause some vomiting and diarrhea, but shouldn't be too severe, and the low potassium might cause some muscle or heart problems *only in animals who already are suffering from potassium deficiency.* Potassium is important enough that the body does the best it can to keep it regulated properly.

I'm very sorry to hear about Boots, Suzy. It sounds like she is overall doing well - keep up the good work! :)

Thank you so much. I would do anything for my sweet girl.

I don't believe Nutro meant for this to happen and I'm not trying to place blame on any one company, but the courts ruled they and other companies were liable and had not checked the safety of the Chinese ingredients in their food in 2007. These companies knew there were problems and delayed the recall for weeks. If they'd only recalled the foods sooner more lives could have been saved. I personally can not trust their products again after what happened.

I'm lucky I got Boots to the vet in time to save her from dying. Her life is not the same though and she sadly won't live as long with her ailing kidneys.
