hey just a question im am almost sure my chin has caught pink eye....and just wondered if i could use Terramycin on her eye... i did call the vet but cant get me in until mondy (SUCKS) but my vet said call in the morning tomorrow and she may be able to fit me in but not a guaruntee =( she is eating and drinking just fine but keeps itching at her eye as i am assuming it is bothering her (makes me feel for her cause ive had it before) but she does have goop in her eye and i just cleaned it out it was closed shut i didnt start gooping until lastnight....when i cleaned it out her eye is all pink and a bit swollen.. i have noticed after i get the goop out she is back to her normal bouncy self.... any advice will help... and i know i need the vet but if there is something i can do in the mean time and will saline hurt her?.... thanks sooo much for reading my post sorry if i posted in the wrong spot

You can use Terramycin, but it makes a mess. You also want to be sure it's a fresh, nonexpired tube that hasn't been used on another infection. You should never pass back and forth contaminated eye medication.

There may be some sort of infection going on since there is goop and irritation, so an antibiotic ophthalmic drop/ointment won't hurt, it just may not fix it. I would be sure to have her teeth looked at as well, just to be on the safe side.

I would use it now and if there is no improvement or if the infection clears up and comes back later, get it checked out by a vet-repeated infections can mean teeth and no improvement can mean a eye injury.

thanks so much everyone my vet cant fit me in today=( but i do have an ophthalmic drop that has never been used and shall i strart that with her i will def call the vet and double check....this is the first time this has ever happened to her and iv had my princess for almost 5 yrs now and has not ever been sick or any type of infection.... and i will keep in mind to have her teeth checked out when i looked at her today her eye isnt quite as pink and wasnt alot of goop in it at all she is able to open it a bit more than she has been.... thanks everyone for your advice and sharing your thoughts on what to do... but i know the VET is the most important thing... :)

Just make sure your drops are not steroid. Terramycin is a goopy gel. Tobramycin is a drop. Did you maybe mean Tobramycin?

Try and keep her eye cleaned out too if she will let you. A slightly warm compress to loosen it up and then gently wipe away and crustiness. It's miserable to have only one eye working.

I did in fact mean Tobramycin ;) and she has been a trooper with letting me get that yucky stuff from her eye is is actully doing well today.... she just sits on my lap and lets me to what i need to do she is alot more calm than my other crazy chinnies...LOL she loves being held and will sit on my lap well i should say lay and have me rub her belly! soooo cute she is..... but yes i will get that going and see if any changes start and still let the vet see her on monday just to make she it isnt anything more serious like teeth problems..... and yes i agree it is miserable to only have one eye...
