Hi,
I know that females should get extra calcium while pregnant. My question is, if the male is still in the cage with her during pregnancy is it ok for him to get the extra calcium? They eat together so its hard to only give the female the extra calcium.
Thanks

I don't give extra calcium during pregnancy unless necessary. Check her teeth. If they are nice and yellow/orange, then I wouldn't give it.

I would not supplement just with calcium. It's best when chins get nutrients from plant sources as they contain the intrinsic vitamin and mineral complexes.

You can give your pregnant chin some loose alfalfa hay. Alfalfa is very nutritive, and it's a good source of calcium. It also contains vitamin A, D, C, magnesium, manganese, lysine, phosphorus and boron that should be present for the assimilation of calcium. Also, I'd offer a small amount of oats along with alfalfa to increase the intake of phosphorus for better calcium absorption.

I think loose alfalfa hay is very beneficial for pregnant chins as during pregnancy nutrient needs are higher.

I monitor teeth and as long as they look yellow/orange I don't add calcium, the diet should provide enough if it is a good one
