Cake or Pie?

Classic thread, I searched but didn't find one, so I started one.

Easy question, easy answer. Cake, Pie, or Both?

Me, I like both.

Pie. Definitely pie. The frosting on cake is, almost without exception, too sweet for me, and I hate when I try to chew a bite and the frosting *crunches* because of the sugar in it.

I don't eat the pie crust, and I scrape the frosting off cake. BTW we took a trip to Oregon and went to a great place called Voodoo doughnuts. They had all kinds of fresh made from scratch stuff and I got the maple doughnut with crispy bacon on top. It was the best! I am going to have to add bacon to them myself now because I loved it. Try it yourself, it's like bacon with french toast.

Kind of depends. All bought pies that I have ever tried, thus far, have icky pie crusts (usually heavy and starchy), even if the insides are good (some fruit pies, apple especially, can get starchy and thick). However, homemade pie crusts (at least the ones I make) are good, and I have yet to make a bad pie (if I do say so myself ;P). Apple, pumpkin, blueberry are my favorites, though I've been known to make various others.

Cakes also depend. Often, grocery store cakes have overly sweet icing. Cakes at expensive restaurants are usually pretty good, as are cakes from good bakeries. And, of course, I like most homemade cakes - my previous roommate had a killer mint chocolate cake recipe which has since been lost

It depends. I mainly say pie, but when you throw some cream cheese in there and it becomes cheese"cake" I definitely have to switch my answer.

Pie by far outweighs my cake desire! I LOVE cherry pie still warm from the oven with some nice vanilla ice cream melting on it. But I really love banana and coconut cream pie! Hard to beat real key lime too! The only cake I truly love is red velvet cake which I make every year for me dad. If I could find a pie to frost with red velvet cake frosting I think I would be in heaven!

Pie!!! With one exception. My grandmothers Black Forest cherry cake. Chocolate cake with cjerries that have been cooked in brandy (buy not long enough for all the alcohol to cook off. Then frosted with a whipped cream type frosting.....flavored with brandy. delicious cake and you nearly drunk by time you finish you piece. Now that i think of it we put liquer in almost all our desserts... i think that was the older people telling us kids it was bed time. :rofl:

I am a chocolate cake lover. I like pies, but LOVE chocolate cake. But then again, I really am a chocoholic and if you offered me chocolate cream pie, how could I refuse!

Okay.. okaaay.. I shoulda voted "both" ..cuz I do love a good Red Velvet Cake ..and Banana Cream Pie is my all time favorite.. after CheeseCAKE

...but the catch is, they MUST MUST MUST be homemade! I'm a picky brat and store bought stuff (any of it) is just disgusting to me... all those nasty preservatives ..all that rushed and mass produced ..blah!

Change my vote to "homemade both" :thumbsup:

ohhh. I like them both. My favorite cake is carrot cake with cream cheese icing. My favorite pie is probably key lime or oatmeal cookie pie. Oh....sooooo goooood!

ooooh!l i love cake! my mom makes the BEST cakes and frosting ever!!
her chocolate frosting is to die for!! i could eat a whole bowl of it! even with out cake! hahaha.
