Hi! I have a question about the cage within a cage intro method... cant the chins bite each other through the bars? :hmm:

They can, but they usually don't. I've done 100s of introductions this way and I have never had a chin bit yet.

Usually the cage that's inside of a cage doesn't immobilize the chinchilla inside, so they are still able to move enough away from the sides to not get bit. I have used this method for my extra difficult chinchillas when I had trios and colonies and it always worked. I haven't had any biting incidents either.

Thanks for the replies!! Do you guys happen to know anyone or any place in Canada that sells those show cages for cage within a cage intros?

i don't know of anywhere in Alberta that sells the show cages, but there might be somewhere in Ontario (lots more chin owners over there from what i've seen!).

you could also try an extra small size dog crate, if the bar spacing is close enough together. i found this one at petsmart's site, but other than the crate dimensions (which aren't that much bigger than a show cage, i think), it doesn't say much about the crate: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3548958 worth checking out though perhaps?

ah, then contact Tagna on here, she is in Ontario as well and may be able to hook you up with a show cage or something else that would work. she knows a lot of chin people in Ontario!
