Hello again.

Well first of all, yes I'm certifiably crazy because as most of you know I'm not working but I found a great, cheap cage and if I can get Tim to pay for half of it [:dance3:] I think I'm gonna splurge because I always want the best for my pets.

So here is the cage:

[and just in case, yes I do know to take out the plastic shelves and I already have this cage for my ferret so I know the bars aren't super close to the plastic bottom, so the chins won't be able to chew it.]

So here is my concern.

I know chins like height, but I've also read enough times that sometimes when they are hopping from ledge to ledge they might miss it, fall and get hurt. So if i were to get this cage, my smallest shelve would be 8 x 5 1/2, and then I'll get some that are 12 and 24 long. So my question is this: Does anyone think this cage would be too tall and that someone might fall and die, because if you do, then I won't get it. But if you guys think it will be safe with the size of the ledges I would put in it, then I'm gonna try to talk Tim into giving me half the money and then order one so my boys can be in a bigger cage and be happier. I think for that cage size that's a pretty good deal and would hate to miss it if it will be a safe cage for them.

Thanks to all who answer,
Jean

Put some shelves or ledges in between, put a hammock half way down and they'll have something to land on should they fall. I had 8 boys all in one cage that height, with nothing in the middle, just shelves around the sides and they did fine in it for years.

That's a nice sized cage, but some people find it to be a pain because you have to left it out to clean it, rather than having a slide out tray. When you load it up with a wheel, hamocks, shelves, etc., it's going to be pretty heavy. Just something to think about.

Yea what most people do is place the shelves so if they do fall they land on another shelve so it is not a hard fall

It does not look too tall to me, I think a lot of people use cages that high, even that cage in particular actually. But, if you spend about $40, you can get a ferret nation, which I LOVE, so I don't know. The safety issue, if you have lots of shelves and ledges would be just fine as long as you don't have an extremely clumsy chin!

Ok, so I have a similar cage by the same brand.
I forworn you, the bars are CHEAP metal. My chins have chewed through FOUR and created a hole (I had to get a friend to weld them back on) and it is just not my cage (Or that area of the cage) my friend has it for her ferrets and she agrees the bars are flimsy.

But with a FN is good quality and thick. I am saving up for one right now.

I think the cage is fine. I have a superpet cage that's either the same height or taller than that one, and we've never had a problem with it. We have shelves across the middle and a few hammocks here and there, and they're all fine. As long as you make sure there's no loooong drops by having a shelf or a hammock go across the middle, I think you'll be fine...

Yah I have some cages I have to lift out, and I know that one is heavy already because my ferret is in one, but I didn't think about it being heavier with the chin spin and all the shelves. That is definately something to think about. THanks.

That's odd, dont' take this the wrong way, but I have one for my ferret and I think it's pretty sturdy and has held up really good. Could you have maybe gotten a bad one??
