What should I use to clean my chinchilla cage?? I've read some things about just using water or water and vinegar. There are products at my local pet store that can be used to clean cages but I am not sure what is the best /safest way to clean a cage.

Some people use a water/vinegar solution (half white vinegar and half water in a clean spray bottle), or some just use warm water to wipe down the pans if that's all that's needed. I have a cleaner called Advantage that is safe for kids and pets that I use to spray the pans, then I just wipe them clean with wet paper towel. I have fleece liners over my cage floors, so there isn't any real scrubbing to do - and I change liners about every other day at this point.

I some more-experienced chin owners weigh in on this, I'm pretty new at it myself :)

Vinegar is cheap and totally harmless! It also is great at keeping away/cleaning those nasty calcium buildups that can occur on the shelves and pan. It also get rid of unwanted odors. Why on earth would anyone use anything else?

For those stains that vinegar doesn't remove, I use peroxide. Works great.

I have a solid bottom on Idgie's cage. I wipe it down with vinegar/water, then just water, and then dry it. Really easy.
