I am a pretty prissy gal I will say. When I hear something wrong with the car I turn up the radio! Isn't that what you're supposed to do? Well a couple of weeks ago I noticed a loud hum in my car when I would go above 40 miles per hour. I had asked Chris, my BIL to listen to it, but he was busy that week. That was a couple of weeks ago, last week I noticed a crunching noise when I would start to brake--so I was like what in the tarnation is going on now? This was always in the front of my car and not the back. So today I came over to do my niece's toe nails since we are going to a picnic birthday surprise out of town this Saturday, and Chris happened to be home today. I asked him if he could pop in the car and listen to the noise. So I'm explaining it to him before we start, he backs slowly out of the driveway and says, "it's your brakes" and I was like what? don't you want to hit the open road and do over 40? and he was like, "nope, I'm pretty sure it's your brakes" and I said--but the noise is in the front of the car, aren't the brakes in back?" He had the kindness not to bust out laughing at me. APPARENTLY you do have brakes on the front of your car! And APPARENTLY there is a something they put on them when they wear down and you need new ones BEFORE you hear the scraping--hence the loud hum!

So today is blistering heat of 90 degrees my wonderful BIL, Chris Saunders, is fixing my brakes for me! And he discovered a bad tie rod on the right front--almost ready to go which would have been awful if I was driving!

Brother's in law are truly God's Blessing!

I guess I'll be cooking him some more bbq ribs or homemade lasagna for all his hard work! Thank goodness one of Lutze girls got a wonderful guy!

BOLO for a wheel bearing noise also, they can hum at 40 also so you may have 2 noises!

I will be you online mechanic if you need help also, since its what I do for a living!

omg, you're too funny. He's a good man, I'd have died laughing. If you've got anything even remotely new (post 50's) it has brakes on all four tires. :D

He might need something cool to drink too, 90! Eeegads, I don't work on my car if it's over 80. You can cook an egg on metal parts that are in 90 degree weather.

OOOH -- Nice offer, Dawn!!! Can it be for all of us as well???

DANG!!! Chin Goddess AND Online Mechanic -- it doesn't get better than that!!!

You must've gotten a good one. I don't even see any of BIL's... haven't even seen any of them for over a year. They couldn't even manage to get fitted for tuxes for our wedding... we all live within 30 min. of each other...

Instead I have multiple "husbands"... that's what we call them. Chris is my friend Crystal's husband, he's my mechanic and misc household repair husband, Kory is my friend Lisa's husband, he's my cowboy & carpenter husband... together with them I try to fix things before my REAL husband comes home and "tries" to "fix" things, lol. He changed the oil in his car and ended up breaking off a chunk of filter housing... luckily it was his crappy work car. He's banned from touching my car... lol

You are one lucky lady. Jeff and I both live far from our family. So I have to depend on a mechanic (Jeff is usless when it comes to cars). I have yet to find one that I trust. If I could do the car repairs myself I would.

Dawn you really are a goddess.

No brother-in-law's here, but lots of "spare" husbands! Got the carpenter, plumber, electrician, mechanic...I even have a spare "wife" who does my sewing and helps me out with my crafty projects. :D

Laurie, you prissy? Who woulda thunk it  LOL! You definitely lucked out in the BIL department. I have an awesome brother but not so much on the BIL's.

Same here, all 3 of my BIL's are worthless slugs! With a husband who is always gone, it's nice to have someone who can understand the car noises I make, when I am trying to tell him what sound the car is making :)

Laurie, You are one funny gal! And for him working in 90 degree heat, he needs both the ribs AND the lasagna!
