If you breed in runs, the collars are made to keep the females inside of their individual cage so that the male can move from female to female, polygamy breeding. The males jump through the run hole to get into the run to go to the next cage, but females with collars on cannot get into the run (or at least they're not supposed to, some seem to wiggle their way in there).

That's interesting. I saw a collar on a chin and I had no idea why a chin was wearing it, nor knew it's purpose. Good to know now!

Does anyone have a photo? I´ve never seen it at all and am curious about how it looks.

I just have to say ****oo that I tried squashing the bug on my screen several times till I realized it was in your signature! LOL

They stay on with rivets, you need a tool in order to set them. They are not uncomfortable for the chins, they get used to them. Here's a photo of one of my breeding females wearing a collar:

I forgot how thin chin necks are, I was expecting to see a collar like the one my dog got after her operation, really surprised to see how small they are. Do they bother the chin much?

I didn't know that some came with a tool to set rivets - can you send me a pic of that and the rivet/collar for my site?

Mine have always used a push-in rivet. Easy to push in with your thumb and remove by hand.

Sure, I'll try to get a photo of it this week. All it is is a hole-puncher that has the puncher whacked off so the rivet goes through. The collars I have, the holes are slightly bigger on one side - that one you can push the rivet through with your thumb. But the holes on the other side are just a bit smaller so I use the riveter to push it through. When I need to take the collar off, it takes some force but I can pop it apart.

Im guessing its kinda like cows with there tags. At first they will try to knock it off but after a little while they just don't even remember its there. Same with when a chin enters a new cage it takes a little while for them to get used to there surroundings and after it just becomes second nature

Ryerson's used to sell rivet setters, don't know if they still do, Rich made them because I asked him about making me something to set the rivets as I always had trouble doing so. I described what I was thinking, and he improvised.

You must check your collars regularly if they get too tight they can cause damage to the neck, if they are too loose they can get stuck in the mouth.

Somehow I got a talented Houdini who can get in the run with her collar on. I even adjusted the door smaller. Finally I had to take hers off and close the hole until I find a new collar or something to keep her from getting stuck. Any ideas?

The tri-collars have bigger prongs on them. There is pictures on Tara's site at the bottom of the page and I also have some to sell on my website - blue cloud dust link - with no rivets though.

Try two collars with the heads of the rivets facing each other.
