My chinchilla Louie is bored. He comes out every day for quite a while. He has a lot of toys, very large cage, safe things to chew on and different levels and perches to jump to but he is still bored. He doesn't really get along too well with other chinchillas either. What can i do besides get more toys? Anything?

Also.. I was going to get him a metal flying saucer wheel but some people say you have to take it out of the cage in the summer because they will overheat.. is this true? I know they can get overheated easily but wouldn't he be fine since we have air conditioning and other ways to keep him cool?

I've never heard of anyone on here saying that it has to be removed due to overheating. As long as you have proper AC to keep the temperature cool and steady, you'll be fine. The saucer may help with his boredom, because aside from more toys, I don't know what you can do to keep him occupied!

Yes a wheel sounds like a good idea. Can he see other chins, where is he housed? Doesha loves to watch TV and gets depressed if he can not reach though the cage bars and squabble a bit. He can't get along with them in the same cage though. The cages are about an inch apart. All boys fyi

First.. What makes you think he is bored? Chins are pretty proficient at a few things, and sleeping is one of them. Despite the simplistic websites that say they are nocturnal (they are actually crepuscular, so they might take naps during the night to get them to dawn and dusk when they are most active), lots of chins lead long, healthy lives without tons of toys.
