Hi there!I recently got a new chinchilla(female 1yrs old):clap1: I have another chinchilla,a male..The male chinchilla is also a bit smaller than the female.Whenever I let the female or the male run, sometimes they will go to each others cage and if they touch each other they will (I'm not sure) like nibble each other and make noises which I'm guessing they are barking. The female also keeps biting everything, she doesn't look like she is stressed but keeps biting everything.I want to know if what the male and female are doing is a good sign or a bad sign and wether the female is stressed. Can anyone tell me how to make my chinchillas bond(I am not planning to breed them but even if the female gets pregnant I am prepared) and how to distress my female chinchilla.Thank you :thanks10:

Did you quarantine her for 30 days before you let them anywhere near each other? If you're not planning on breeding them, I wouldn't put them together... As they will probably end up breeding.

Some chins just never get along, others work from the start, then you have others who struggle but work out in the end. When introducing my chins, I learned my one chin was territorial over his cage. To introduce them properly, I would need to completely clean and rearrange the cage in order to avoid his possessive behavior. However, I stopped the process for the time being in order to learn more about my new chin. I've had him since May but I am still learning things about him. He is more laid back and relaxed, while my first chin isn't. You need to know if they are even compatable personality wise as well.

Each chin is different so my opinion is that with that information, it's hard to give you an answer to whether it's a good idea to introduce them or not. Also remember that they can turn on each other at any time, so always have a spare cage.

If you do not plan to breed, then they can not be caged or have play time together. You need to decide what you plan on doing. Does both chins have pedigrees? do you have plenty of spare kit safe cages? Do you have an emergency vet for birthing issues? These are all things to consider before you allow a male and female ANY form of contact.
