Blue Kote

I just wanted to ask (since many of you use it) what exactly is Blue Kote. Lately, we have been having dog fight victims come in looking purple due to owners self treating, then finding out they need actual medical treatment. You ask what they used on the wounds and they reply "I don't know, it was in a yellow can/bottle." We looked it up and it was Blue Kote. So, for my knowledge when I see this again, what exactly is it? What does it do besides dye the fur a beautiful blue/purple? and will it affect any other treatment options we can offer? and most importantly, what is the best way to get the purple off so the vets can better ***** the wounds for bruising and dying flesh?

Blu-kote is mostly gentian violet. It acts as an antiseptic and antifungal. Best way to get it off the animal is just with soap and water, but it usually takes quite a few washes. It comes off skin easier than it does fur. It shouldn't affect any treatment option.

Ingredients: Sodium propionate, gentian violet, acriflavine, in a special base of water, urea, glycerine, isopropyl alcohol 32% by volume.
