Looks like Niels finally did it. It will be very interesting to see how this auction goes and what the demand does to the color and the market.

I always wondered what the response to the first whites/beiges were, even though whites aren't in demand for pelts they are still far more common than beiges and brown velvets, I think largely due to the attractiveness of the color for the pet market.

I'm surprised they would use that particular mutation for it's fur.

Im not a fur person at all, but saying that i like leather. Although i wouldnt buy for myself i do sometimes wonder if they make alot of money from the furs, im just curious really, i sort of see why people would want them in a way because they are so soft.

I really wonder what the pelts would sell for. Would be neat to see them up close and in person, too.

So the comment about being the only one doing this does he mean pelting blue diamonds? Because there are others breeding them right?

I believe they are the only ones pelting so far. I know of several people working towards blue diamonds sadly most of the people (read most not all) are BYBs though That have nothing but mutations in breeding

Niels has been working with Blue Diamonds for almost 10 years. He wants to create a pelt market for them, so has really concentrated on producing a strong furred product. He showed some at the Norway National Show this year and received a 75 point score on a 80 possible scale. Their judging is more strict there then ours. The judges award points for different qualities then tally points awarded on a score card. Less then 20% of the animals shown receive a 75 or above score, so it would be equivalent of placing reserve class champion or higher in our 10 class show system. He has come a long way with overall quality in them and seems to really be doing it the right way. I have seen them in person and they are much nicer fur quality then I expected. Much denser and stronger furred then most all the sapphires I've seen. They are still a work in progress though and have only been around for less then 10 years. A very pretty color in person. Pictures don't due them justice.

I agree the pictures do not do that color justice. It is quite stunning in person.

As far as I know he is the only pelt breeder breeding them. There are a few other strains running about but not in pelt herds.
