So this is just not my month. I go to get my hair highlighted as usual, every 3-4 months or so. I have red hair, so if you don't keep the dye on for long enough, it turns a very ugly horrible light orange color. It looks like a crayola crayon- neon orange. So, she tries to fix it, does it one more time, leaving it in longer this time. Nope, exactly the same, but just more horrible orange color. I am crying at this point - I know, I know, it is just hair, but this was bad, and I knew they could not do anything else to it dye wise or my hair will fall out.

They put toner on it to try and do something or other- and now I have orange and blue striped hair! I have to go to my new job as a corporate lawyer with blue and orange hair. I don't even know what to do. I think I am still in shock. They said to come back in a few days and they will fix it, but I really don't want to go there again. How long should I wait? What should I do? I am so scared it will just get worse...or my hair will fall out or something.

I found out she used some new dye without amonia or something, and that just must not be strong enough for my hair- thanks for letting me know now! Don't you think she would have tried the other kind the 2nd time? :hair: Literally I want to pull out my hair. I am so horrified!

I hope you didn't have to pay! I really don't know what to tell you. I'd be calling up different places and talking to them.

My hair has gone through hell for years and hasn't fallen out. I was a natural blond but in high school, died it BLACK! It has never been the same since.

I would talk to somebody about getting it stripped and re-dying it. Stripping is terrible for your hair but it may be a last resort. Then they can re-dye it. Biggest issue with the stripping chemical is that it will make your hair smell like... to put it g-rated, fish. For about a week.

If you have natural red hair and your highlights is the only died part... best option for now would be to pull your hair back into a tight bun to hide it.

My aunt once used expired dye by accident, and her hair literally turned green.
She had to call the salon and they said they could send someone down since she knew the owner. They had to strip her hair and put all these harsh chemicals in, but her hair recovered fine.

That's horrid. My mom told me once of a time she tried to dye her hair blonde and ended up with green hair.

I would even consider finding a different salon. Get your money back and go to someone who knows what they are doing, and can properly fix it.

Yikes though, what a nightmare!

I would go to Sallys and pick up a bottle of 10 volume developer and a dye thats close to your natural color and cover it up (hopefully you don't have blonde hair!). Thats what I usually do when my highlights begin to grow out and I go back in 2 weeks or so and redo my highlights instead of just redoing the roots. My hair has turned orange, green, pink, you name it. I'd just go over it with a nice medium brown and leave it in about 30-40 mins. Should do the trick.

I would, but I have red hair- there is really is no way I could ever match it, salons have a hard enough time. I did not have to pay- but I felt so bad for the girl I left her a tip. I think she was as traumatized as me-- almost.

The blue should come out- it is just toner, but not for a few days. I can't wear a hat to work, but I am going to go look for a wide cloth type head band thing and pull a hippie look for a few days. In the mean time go to a few salons and see who has the best plan.

Too bad halloween is not for 7 months...lol.

You could always get a 40 volume and a whitener (bleach solution) and whiten it and then try to find a red to put on top. I know its a lot of chemicals to deal with but it can be tough to cover up a botched job. You can also get a solution to remove color from your hair and then dye over it.

A long time ago, I had really short pixie-ish hair, and had decided to grow it out. Then I got a crazy idea to try to get a dirty blonde color going (I have naturally very dark brown to neutral black hair). I had done the bleached blonde/white hair before, so I knew what I was in for. So we took it down, then she put a toner in. It was KHAKI. I don't know what planet she was from that she equated dirty blonde with khaki.

I called my friend up and immediately told her my wonderful story, and of course she thought I was exaggerating. So, I put on a pair of khaki capri's, I had a khaki t-shirt at the time, and a cream colored sweater and went to her house. She believed me then!

Good thing it was still short, I just let it grow back out and trimmed it shorter and waited. :hair:

I agree...

:needpics:

I think I would be horrified if that happened to me. Of course I never dye or highlight my hair though. I can only imagine what the hairdresser felt like! I think the wide headband sounds like a good idea as well as putting it into a bun to try and maybe hide most of the hair.

First of all you better not have done this on purpose to support the Chicago Bears! Yikes!
Second of you, you are one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life so even with blue and orange hair I know you are beautiful.
How should you fix it--honestly you should go dark for a bit to correct it. I know you have red hair, but a nice carmel brown would look very beautiful on you.

you can always get a temporary black hair spray (or w/e your natural hair color is)...I use it for halloween alot...it works well....hopefully it'll last you through the job!! goodluck!! =/

Ugh, what is it with us redheads and dyes? I dyed my hair more red (to be even more ravishing than I already am), and it came out purple!! I feel your pain.

Call around today. At some higher end salons they just have "colorists", which might be worth looking into.

I agree with Laurie... throw a semi-permanent medium brown shade over it for a while to cover the blue and orange. Or, you can go with a vegetable/henna dye which isn't as harsh.

Actually that sounds kinda cool. If it was me though and it really bothered me that much (though it wouldn't cuz it's just hair and will grow out), I'd just get it shaved down to like a #2 or something. It'll grow back and be nice and cool for spring.
Either that or get a really strong bleach and strip it then either leave it bleached or dye it some other colour.

Wow, one brave lady! My hair is long and almost down to my waist, I really have trouble cutting off an inch. My husband and I are renewing our vows in June, I would die if it was not fixed by then. I got the blue out, and work was...well...ok. A few people asked why my hair is up and I just told them it was a bad hair day. Little did they know it has been a bad hair week! I really can't go get it fixed until Sat. but I think they will be able to fix it. Even if I have to dye my whole head red again and then have them do highlights. Otherwise, Laurie, we are going wig shopping!

Aww poor Chantel! I bet you are horrified.

You could wear Gators clothes, and tell everyone you are just a mad Gators fan, supporting your team! :D

I'd ask around locally, for a salon that specializes in correcting color boo-boos. Your hair is going to need some tender lovin care!
