I have just brought some chinchillas from someone wishing to rehome. Found out that they are biters. What sound I do, I really wanted to handle them in time.:1grouch:

What are you doing that results in the chins biting you? It generally takes quite a bit for a chin to settle into their new environment and feel safe. If you they are feeling scared or threatened and 'barking' at you, chances are they aren't ready to be handled. Go slow, go at their pace not yours, and in time they will warm up to you. That being sad, chinchillas are not 'cuddly' pets. Some do like to cuddle, but most do not like to be held and prefer to receive little scratches/scritches under the chin or around their ears, etc. instead. I would recommend reading the FAQ threads for new owners because there is a lot of great information there on how to bond with your new chins. Here is another good site with lots of information: http://owningchinchillas.webs.com/bringing-your-chin-home
