Hey everyone, i'm moving next weekend and the room I have designated for my critters tends to draw a lot of sunlight through the windows. Any suggestions on good, but not overly expensive, blinds I can use to keep the sun/heat out?

Thanks,
Rich

I found that Room Darkening Shades work great. I found them at Home Depot - and they weren't too expensive. I don't know about blinds - I found the shades really seemed to work better for me.

I have some sort of blocking screen that roll out and it block perfectly the sun (even without putting the curtain). You can get it for cheap at Home Depot. Here's a pic in case it's not clear.

...that's a room darkening shade.

At Home Depot online they have a pleated version:

36 x 72 White Room Darkening Vinyl Temp Shade
Model TSVRD-3672
$5.97/EA Each

The bigger one is $2 more.
48 x 72 White Room Darkening Vinyl Temp Shade
Model TSVRD-4872
$7.97

Does this blind make the room pitch black or does it just filter out some of the light?

Thanks! That's what I am looking for. I need my bedroom so dark that you can't see your hand in front of your face in order to sleep. Well the blinds I have now work great...problem is that the string you pull to raise/lower them is fixing to break..and well they were $50 Levolour (or however you spell it) blinds from Lowes and I am not ready to drop another $50 on a new blind yet.

Totally rolled out it blocks about 80-90% of the light. I have the same in my room (this is the chin room) and at noon I don't know if it's 6 am or 12 am.

Thermal curtains- I know it sounds sort of backward but they are actually great at blocking light and heat, they also help keep the cool air inside. They are really thick and either have a foam or vinyl lining. There are floor length ones or roller shade ones, the roller shade ones should be good as long as they are mounted outside instead of inside!

The roller ones tend to be cheaper although the floor length ones can be pretty good price too.

(sorry dorkieness- sold custom drapes for a couple years!)

I used dark car window tint. It lets in a bit of light, and keeps out the heat. During the day time it is dark enough for the chins to sleep, but light enough that I can see what I am doing in there without having to turn on the light.
