i heard somewhere that to prevent staining on the brand new shelves i could rub a little beeswax into them, i'm just wondering if that's entirely safe for my chins? I just did a full switchout of all my shelves for new ones because they were really holding a smell and sanding them down was not helping, and i want to know if this is a safe means of prolonging the life of my shelves. Thanks for reading!

I wouldn't think so. Instead, a lot of members use hydrogen peroxide on the shelves to get out stubborn urine stains. Just put some slightly diluted hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle, take the shelves out of the cage and spray them down then scrub them. I usually leave the shelves out in the sun for a few hours after cleaning to make sure the chemicals get broken up.
