OK I'm the lady who asked the question about my dogs eating Chin poop.

Now I need advice about dogs eating Chin bedding. LOL

Right now I have Carefresh but I have read that this can cause an impaction and I have seen my Chin eating bedding.

I would switch to Aspen but I wonder if that could harm my Chihuahua if he eats wood shavings verses paper Carefresh.

I want them to both be safe. Would appreciate any advice from all of you.

Thank you, Faye

I use pine. My dog I am sure ingests bits of that with the poop as we use it for the horses as well.

Same here...I've got a four pound yorkie and a sixteen pound doxie mix. Both eat poo, pine shavings, hay, chin pellets...if the chins get it you can bet the dogs will find it later and eat it. Neither have ever had diarrhea, vomiting or ill effects from their "eating habits" ;)

lolx, my papillion used to eat everything on the floor including poop, pellet and bedding dropped from the chin cages. When he grown older, he no longer eat those that he feel yucks to him...but I think he still like chin pellet.

my one dog seems to like the pine shaving - although I do try to get him away from most of it. My stupid dogs even like the chin dust. I forgot and put the dust pan on the floor as I was cleaning another cage. The dogs were licking it up when I found out. Also they will lick up the dust when it falls to the floor.

I guess the big thing is, keep the dogs away from it if you can, keep the area as clean as possible etc and you should be fine. In large quanities, I'm sure it can block up a dogs system--just as carefresh i'm sure could, too. A small amount I highly doubt will hurt, but if the dog is constantly eating it i'd be worried of blockage.

My dog loves chinchilla poop and pellets as well, but she's never eaten bedding. I'd definitely try to discourage that as I too would be worried of a blockage. I do wonder what goes on in some of our pooches' heads sometimes, lol.

It is only the bits of bedding that falls out of the cage not big amounts. So I am going to switch from the Carefresh to the Aspen pellets. I don't particularly like the smell of pine. I think with Aspen both of my creatures will be safe.

Thank you all. I told my friends that I found other people who will talk about dogs eating Chin poop and Chin bedding. I'm thrilled.

My two smaller dogs will eat the chin pellets that fall on the floor, sometimes the poops if they get mixed in, but not the bedding. I have to keep them barred out of the chin room when I clean the cages. It's funny how it seems to be just the smaller dogs that do this. My aussie doesn't, but my chihuahua and my schnauzer/doxie mix both do.

My dogs i am sure have ingested some before but I try to keep it cleaned up as much as possible so they arent eating alot at a time!
