I think they like the top because it's kinda like a hammock, yet more stable than a hammock? Buttons lays on top of his just as much as he lays inside. I think he just likes having the option.

What's funny though is he has never slept on his hammock, yet he will sleep on the top of his fleece house at least every couple days. Silly Buttons.
